A vision that will foster and encourage governments to deal with risks of natural disasters and to put them high on their political agendas, as a reliable investment for future generations.

Given the established practice of the European Forum for Disaster Risk Reduction (EFDRR), as an outgoing Chair, I am pleased to share with you the final outcome document of the 2nd EFDRR Meeting, which was held under the Macedonian Chairmanship in Skopje, on 10 -12 October 2011. This document is the product of your constructive and valuable feedback and comments.

 

I would like to emphasize that the final adjustments in this document have been done in cooperation with the UNISDR, while taking into consideration the comments that were received from EFDRR members.

Statement by the President of the Republic of Macedonia, H.E. Dr. Gjorge Ivanov, on the occasion of the opening ceremony of the Third Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction and the World Reconstruction Conference

 

 

 

“…Disaster risk is a reality of today, and a real threat for tomorrow. A threat that can be solved only by fulfilling the commitments and numerous pledges our governments have taken in past decades. It is the most important responsibility of this generation to hand over a less vulnerable world to generations to come, just as Noah did for mankind on the summit of biblical Mount Ararat.


With this thought in mind, let me recall Einstein’s wisdom when he said: “We cannot solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.” It is up to this generation to adopt a different mindset so we can hand over a safer world to our children….”

Based on a holistic system approach, the Macedonian model is dedicated to effective and efficient risk reduction by integrating all available and relevant capacities and resources. Guided by this methodologically consistent approach, networks were formed comprised of all national, regional and local governmental and non-governmental stakeholders committed to prevention….”
