Opening Address of the EFDRR Chair 2011, D-r Pande Lazarevski

I have the pleasure to welcome you on the Second Session of the European Forum for Disaster Risk Reduction, held in the Republic of Macedonia under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Macedonia who has honored us with his presence today. I believe it is a clear sign of the dedication of Macedonian decision makers to Disaster Risk Reduction.

It is an honour to be here with you today for the 2nd Annual Meeting of the European Forum for Disaster Risk Reduction, a key event the continuing building of political commitment of the European region to implement The European Regional Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction. I would like to take the opportunity to recognize the personal engagement of His Excellency, President Ivanov, in hosting this important Forum meeting and giving much of his time to us today.I thank Dr.Pande Lazarevski, the current Chair of the European Forum, for the work he and his team have made to prepare for this key event.

On this occasion, we want to share a vision. A vision that is crucial in many respects. A vision that contributes to strengthening to our joint responsibility. A vision that will foster and encourage governments to deal with risks of natural disasters and to put them high on their political agendas, as a reliable investment for future generations.
